Felony Crimes in Michigan

Seek Experienced Legal Representation from Our Okemos Criminal Defense Lawyer

In Michigan and throughout the United States, felonies are classified as the most serious crimes, while smaller crimes are considered misdemeanors. Unfortunately, felony convictions are often life-altering events, resulting in lengthy prison sentences, expensive fines, and a permanent mark on your criminal record which can hinder employment opportunities.

If you were recently arrested and charged with a felony in Michigan, White Law PLLC is committed to protecting your rights, reputation, and freedom. With more than six decades of combined experience, our Okemos criminal defense attorneys possess a comprehensive understanding of state law to help you navigate through the intricacies of the legal system and your case. Do not face this serious crime without experienced and reliable legal counsel.

State Sentencing Guidelines

Felonies are categorized as belonging to one of six specific crime groups: crimes against a person, against property, involving an illegal drug or controlled substance, against public order, against public safety, and against public trust. Each crime group encompasses multiple offenses. Felonies are typically punishable by more than a year in prison, up to a life sentence.

The following are the Michigan sentencing guidelines:

  • Class A felony – Life imprisonment
  • Class B felony – Maximum prison sentence of 20 years
  • Class C felony – Maximum prison sentence of 15 years
  • Class D felony – Maximum prison sentence of 10 years
  • Class E felony – Maximum prison sentence of five years
  • Class F felony – Maximum prison sentence of four years
  • Class G felony – Maximum prison sentence of two years
  • Class H felony – Jail or other intermediate sanctions, including fines and probation

Real Testimonials
From Previous Clients

  • Thank you White Law for what you did!

“People v. A.D. (2014) - "My son was facing his third gun charge. His first lawyer died on Christmas Day. Jamie White took over the case when it was already in a late phase of the case. My son was serving a year from a prior gun charge and Mr. White had almost all of the charges thrown out. My son was sentenced to nine months with time served, nothing except a mark on his record. Mr. White got him from being in jail with a third gun charge looking at 10 to 15 years with habitual to a plea to a gun charge with time served for nine months. Thank you White Law for what you did!"”

  • If it wasn't for Mr. White I would have been unjustly put in jail for a very long time.

“People v. R.R. (2013) - "I was facing a serious criminal charge that I did not commit. I spoke with several other attorneys and all of them had a laid back attitude. I didn't need an attorney with a laid back attitude, I needed an attorney that would aggressively pursue my case and one that knows the law. I got referred to Jamie White of the White Law PLLC and I got exactly what I needed, an aggressive knowledgeable attorney. From our initial conversation to the day I was exonerated, Mr. White worked hard to prove my innocence. If it wasn't for Mr. White I would have been unjustly put in jail for a very long time. Thank you Mr. White." ”

  • Great team of lawyers here who are well connected with prosecutors in the area that look out for their client's best interests.

“Great team of lawyers here who are well connected with prosecutors in the area that look out for their client's best interests. They also provide alternative pricing for those who can't afford the top lawyers in the firm (and the top lawyers still work with the associates despite the lower price), so yeah great law firm.”

  • Attorney Jamie White and his legal team are amazing.

“Attorney Jamie White and his legal team are amazing. Although my situation did not end up in actual court, this team was well prepared in the event that it did. I was notified and in the loop on every step that was happening and it was very comforting to know that this team was well prepared to handle my situation. If I ever need legal counsel again, or know of anyone who does, White Law PLLC is my first choice.”

  • Compassion, Dignity, and Respect,

“Let me start by saying that compassion, dignity, and respect, hold the most value for me. It's not everyday that you would need an attorney, but when you do it's important to find one that believes in the same values as you do. This law firm does an outstanding job keeping those values and did an amazing job on my case. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for representing us and I will highly recommend this law office to everyone I know!”
